Idaho Scenic
Read MoreStock image of a panorama of the Idaho landscape on the Snake River south of Boise, Idaho USA with Bonneville melon gravels iin the foreground and a large mesa in the background. The melon gravels and river basin were shaped by the flood from Lake Bonneville about 15,000 years ago. Lake Bonneville was located in what is now known as Salt Lake. The flood occurred when a natural alluvial deposit acting as a dam failed, and water from the lake flowed north and west into the Snake River Plain and Snake River Canyon. This flood carved the Snake River Canyon deeper and deposited sediments and debris along the way. The basalt boulders were deposited by the Bonneville Flood and are called melon gravels because the size and shape of the boulders are similar to melons. **Note: Due to the odd size of this image it is not offered as a print ***
